Video: Boss Hogg Outlawz – Outlaw Wayz

Not a video per se, more of a collection of music videos that could be better interpreted from Slim Thug & his Boss Hogg Outlawz outfit. While Outlaw Wayz is a solid offering from the group and highlights numerous top notch, its mostly dominated by two members of the group who may not have as much pull as Thugga himself, L.E.$. & MUG.

It’s wildly understood that Slim Thug is the name that holds the BHO name together but on more than a few cuts, Slim gives way to the younger hogs and watches them eat through tracks with the sort of precision that you would see from a shark who sees blood in the water. L.E.$. is fully tatted with a penchant for doing things abnormally but stylish enough that you fit right in with him. Yes, he’s a purveyor of weed rap but also has the mental capacity to study all sides of the coin in hip-hop, evident from 2010’s outstanding The Beautiful Struggle and heavily DJ Quik influenced QuikTape.

Here’s a reason why Outlaw Wayz may entice your speaker systems during the dog days of summer: two of its noted cuts are samples of other major records. “Swimming In The Money” lifts a line from Drake‘s “Forever” & “Gangsta” involves Willie D‘s “Damn It Feels Good To Be A Gangsta” and while the sample choice may be a hefty fee if either cut is added to Serve & Collect 3, both firmly establish that the BHO is more than a one man band, even if the most notable second in command J-Dawg only appears on four cuts.

But here’s what you should remember, “Turn My Knock Up” will more than likely serve as SN3‘s first single. Bet on it.

Rapid Ric’s Whut It Dew: Album Release Party

Last month, I along with a host of others headed to Candy Lounge to celebrate Rapid Ric‘s Whut It Dew: The Album. A fun night was had by all including the misses as well as Young Sea who had his first ever performance before the proceedings. Still, when Bun B arrives in a venue you still have to stop and tip your hat to the Trill OG.

For photos of the event, hit up our bros at Houston Trend Mag.

Video: Slim Thug – Beat It Up (f. Dallas Blocker)

Vodpod videos no longer available.

Somebody is going to go through a lengthy CSI search to find the name of the model in Slim Thug & Dallas Blocker‘s latest video. More than likely, there will be a rap sheet behind it such as SHOW Magazine appearances, more video shoots and the potential to have spurned one or two rappers. At least.

Slim’s highly underrated album Tha Thug Show is available now via iTunes & Amazon. For more Dallas Blocker, he’s got a mixtape out entitled Uncut and you can get via at DJBooth.

Upcoming Events: Fun In The Sun Carnival at Smartie Pants Academy

Clutch City Magazine, The Hive Society & The 30 Under 30 Network present an event specifically in mind for the children of Houston with disabilities. This Saturday, come out to Smartie Pants Academy for a day of concessions, games and live performances aimed to benefit the Smartie Pants Academy which is the only daycare in the Greater Houston area specifically designed to aid children with disabilities. Slim Thug has already pledged that he’ll be in attendance for this particular event so I definitely wouldn’t miss it as it’s a perfect way to come out and support a great cause.

To donate you can click HERE and for more info contact Clutch City’s Jelisa Floyd or Sumiko Hamilton of The Smartie Pants Academy Daycare Center.

Long a standout on Texas’s vaunted underground scene, Chalie Boy releases the third edition of his Versatyle Child series. Hosted by longtime friend and DJ Rapid Ric, the tape contains features from an impressive cast including Slim Thug, Chamillionaire, Mac Miller, J-Dawg along with production from the likes of Beat King, J Starz, Cy Fyre and more.

The July 4th Leftovers Mix

Usually when you get slapped with a 3-day weekend (4-day in some cases), there are plenty of tracks artists leak out that don’t necessarily get the promotion they deserve due in large part to the fact that well – they decided to release music during a holiday period where hell, everyone else is releasing holiday music. Here at D&D, we know a lot of the stuff went under the radar so how about we give you a chance to dig in on some more MP3s and mixes?

P.O.V.: Marco Torres On His Five Favorite Photos

If you’re in and around Houston’s hip-hop concert scene, then you have either seen or been privileged to meet Marco Torres. The Houston native and freelance photographer for the Houston Press has been on the scene for numerous events and concerts around the city, most recently hitting Trae Tha Truth‘s Street King show at House of Blues (as well as having his photos featured on numerous hip-hop blogs and magazines). Since we bump into each other on a frequent basis, I pitched to Marco the idea of spotlighting five of his favorite shots from various events in the city and speak on each photo in his own words.

Honorable mentions? Try these shots of Slim Thug, Bun B & Devin The Dude. Time to hear Marco explain himself.

Album: Lil O – Grind Hard, Pray Harder

Out of absolutely nowhere, Lil O drops his Grind Hard, Pray Harder album just for the folks who wanted to add a little Screwed Up Click to their July 4th festivities. How straight forward is the release? There’s no album art for it, just O telling people, “I have a new album out and it’s on zSHARE, f*ck with me”! Notable cameos from the likes of Big T, Chamillionaire, Slim Thug, Devin The Dude, Wonderus, Chalie Boy, J-Dawg & Big Marcus. Of course, you can buy the album fresh off of iTunes as well but if you want what O’s been promoting for quite sometime, follow the rules down below.

Tracklist x Download link after the jump.

Mixtape: Z-Ro – 5200

True to his word, Z-Ro decided to release his 5200 mixtape to the streets, without a tracklist but on the strength of his word. Knowing Ro, anything coming from him is worth a purchase or download. The Crystal Meth album is coming soon but for now, get on board with the “King of the Ghetto”‘s latest.

When Swishahouse Ruled The World

Long before Texas attributed itself to dance rap or fulfilling a few promises to other states to help their artists get on; there was a group of hungry rappers who surrounded two DJs and formed a clique that were the face of Texas hip-hop for quite some time. The sheer number of artists involved with the House remains interesting enough as it stretches over two decades of sizeable members such as Slim Thug, Paul Wall, Chamillionaire, & Mike Jones along with regional stars J-Dawg & Magnificent.

Most will only say they knew of the House once Jones, Wall & Slim Thug got together to put out “Still Tippin’” from a mixtape that blew up nationally and became the forefront of Texas rap dominating 2005-06.

From the late nineties until The Day Hell Broke Loose 2, Swishahouse had at least one or two CDs in any deck in Texas with various themes. Appreciative of the movement DJ Screw started on the southside of Houston, OG Ron C & Michael “5000” Watts coined the Swishahouse just to show the Northside of Houston that they couldn’t  leave expansion just to the south alone. When the Screwed Up Click slowly phased out into solo projects and sadly began losing some of his chief members, the House continued on, travelling the state like a circus, willing to perform anywhere at any time their arsenal of freestyles.
